Toy Camera: Holga Time!

(All of the photographs above were taken by me!)
www.brittanymarieharrington.com

What Is a Holga Camera?

The Holga is a medium format 120 film camera, made in Hong Kong, known for its low-fidelity aesthetic.

The Holga's low-cost construction and simple meniscus lens often yields pictures that display vignetting, blur, light leaks, and other distortions.

Where Can I Get a Holga?

The Holga camera store of course! Check out this awesome online store that specialized in selling Holga cameras. www.holgacamera.com

Why Do I Love My Holga Camera?

You never know what exactly your image is going to look like! I love that level of surprise and anticipation. Besides the fact that I love all things that deal with film. Holga is a great camera for a beginner wanted to explore film or someone more advanced wanting to have the Holga vignetting, blur, light leaks, and other distortions.

Classic Paintings with a Sense of Familiarity

Can you name these famous celebrities and famous pieces of art?

The website Worth 100 had a contest of "Modern Renaissance" to see who could manipulate a digital replicate of a famous painting with a celebrities face.  How do you think they did?

Second Grade Self-Portrait: Art Classroom

Second grade self-portraits is one of my favorite lessons to teach. Having students study different aspects of there face in a mirror truly is a new self discovery adventure for them.

They realize the details they have that make them unique such as freckles, birthmarks, and even missing teeth. I then have a step by step drawing example for each student to watch and try themselves.

It was amazing to see how similar the drawings looked like each student. Success! After the drawings were finished and everything filled with color students were proudly showing each other their artwork.

In this art lesson we discuss geometry, symmetry, asymmetry, and anatomy.

Here are a few examples:

Items you need:
Compact Mirror
Pencil
Eraser
Crayons
8 1/2 x 11 Drawing Paper
Pattern of a Large Oval

This is a wonderful fun lesson to have in the art classroom and at home!
